Elam's Root Beer stand was torn down in 1989. The rights to the company's root beer, a legendary homemade treat for Decatur citizens since its 1953 inception, were bequeathed to the foundation that works with the Decatur Housing Authority and purchased from that group by McClure's father, Frank Beaman.
