I'm not sure what is available in your area, but there is a national chain CostPlus World Market that carries a good selection in glass bottles. Boylans and Briar's are two that I could recommend from what they carry.

Since your user name is bulldogfans, see if you can get Bulldog Root Beer. It is newer, but is widely regarded as one of the best in the country. See their website for where to get it or order in online: Only registered users can see links on this board! Get registered or login!

Information on your approximate location would be helpful, there are many regional brands. Some personal favorites:

Berghoff (Chicago)
Rollie's (East Coast)
Sparky's (San Francisco)

This one might make a nice gift: Virgil's Special Edition Bavarian Nutmeg root beer. It tastes good, the nutmeg is noticable, and it comes in a nifty reclosable bottle. I admit I bought it for the bottle, but the beverage was good.

As I mentioned in another thread, my personal favorite is Schell's 1919 root beer, but that is not available in bottles & cans.
