I had read a lot of good online reviews about Bulldog Root Beer. It placed well on many of the web sites, showing up in the top 10 quite often. So when I saw that Bulldog would be selling to Cost Plus World Market this December, I went out and bought some. It was $6 for a six-pack... definitely on the pricey side, but a good brew is worth it, right? Well, I've been drinking H.W. and T.K., so I know what good root beer can taste like.
The Bulldog had one disappointment right away. The head was measly. Maybe half and inch, and it didn't stay around very long either. I chilled the bottles, and tried both frosted and non-frosted mugs. Nothing much ever in the way of foam.
The taste was a bit of a let down, too. I don't mind honey, but the stuff was a bit too sweet overall for my taste. I'm a grownup. If you like Mug root beer then this will taste good, but frankly I like the complex and not-so-sweet taste of Thomas Kemper and Henry Weinhard.
On a positve note, Bulldog is sold in old-style, non-twist bottles, so I can reuse them for my own home brewed root beer.

Thank you for the detailed review on Bulldog. It's nice to know not only what you thought, but also where you found it. Good luck on the home brewing front...
