Any other fans of 1919 root beer out there? It is (was?) brewed by the August Schell Brewing Company, New Ulm, Minnesota, USA. http://www.schellsbrewery.com/contactus.php I hope they still make it, there is no mention of it on their web site. 1919 is deep and rich, with a well-rounded flavor. They don't put it in bottles or cans, you have to find it on tap or buy it in bulk packages (2.25 gallons & up). Southern Minnesota is the best place to look for 1919. You can find a few distributors on the web.

Thank you for the detailed information, chickenrob! My grandfather also preferred Vernors.

Thanks for the tip. I was passing through (OK, it was just slightly out of my way) so I stopped in for a cold one. I had to stop and ask locals for directions a few times, but I finally found it on 5th St just south of Willow. That purple and green tile floor is disturbing.

As of February 2008, I've now found 1919 available in 5-liter pony kegs, costing about $20. This is such happy news, that I carried one home on my bicycle, nearly breaking my back. The root beer made it all worth it, though.

Yes, any liquor store in the Twin Cities area can order the pony keg for their customers. The store just needs to contact the brewery in New Ulm.

Newb here.

I'm doing a project on 1919 root beer for school. Only problem is, I live in Georgia!

Anyone here know of a way to get a hold of this stuff? If anyone has any contacts or tips, I'd really appreciate it!

I know this topic is a little old, but I figure it's worth a shot.

1919 is only sold cold. So unless it's packed in dry ice, you probably won't find any locally in georgia.

I can get it at the local grogery store in a 5L pony keg for $17. But i'm not really wanting to be responsible for dry ice.

Go to their website and contact them. They will then e-mail you how to pay and get the mini keg shipped to your door.

Thanks Kink
