I've got some persnickety nephues... It may taste, smell, and act like Root Beer... but with out the Color, or any "foam" they won't touch it...

Any ideas to get some "head" on it? Or how to get some Color into it?

If you look on the ingredients label of any brand of root beer, you will see "caramel color." Caramel is cooked sugar or other carbohydrate. See Only registered users can see links on this board! Get registered or login!

Put some sugar into a pot and gradually heat it until it melts and turns almost black. If it is too bitter for your taste, you will have to buy commercially produced caramel coloring. See

I have not used this, so I do not know how accurate or available it is, but to increase the foam, I have seen mention of using Quillaja saponaria - "Soapbark" and/or Manihot esculenta - "Manioc" or "Yuca" (root). Let us know how it turns out!
