I decided to start a thread on extract brands. What companies sell root beer extract?

I know about Zatarains, and that it is very old, nearly as old as Hires.
Anyone make root beer from this extract? I'd love to know how people think it tastes.

I also know of Hoptech:

Rainbow "Old Fashioned Homebrew" (sold in many brew shops)

Gnome Extract

I have some LorAnn rootbeer flavor oil. It is soluble in water. I have only smelled it and it seems similar to Hires. It is probably more concentrated than other brands. Stay away from LorAnn "sassafras flavor oil" because it is little more than methyl salicylate.

Incidentally, LorAnn has one of the best shipping policies that I have encountered in online shopping.

That was me.

Even though I found a very old bottle of Durkee Root Beer Concentrate in my pantry, I can't give you a review because its flavor has deteriorated to nothing and I don't remember what it tasted like when fresh. At least, I was reminded that it exists and found that it can be purchased online.

Gnome makes an excellent flavor extract. This year I mixed in some cream soda extract and substitued one cup of dark grade B maple syrup for a cup of sugar. Most delicious! I stock an old pepsi machine that sits on my porch each summer.

Has anyone actually tasted soda made from Zatarains?
