No, Stewarts does not have caffeine. A brand called Pirate's Keg formerly had caffeine, but no longer does. Rat Bastard does have caffeine. I'm not sure if any other brands (other than Barq's) have caffeine. It is not, and never has been, a normal ingredient in root beer. _________________ Bottoms up!

these are the ones i have found that do:
Barq's
Hosmer Mountain Sarsaparilla
Hot Rod Magazine Root Beer
Jack Black's Dead Red Root Beer
Skeleteen's Rat Bastard Root Beer
XTZ X Root Beer Riot
and like Kevin said, Pirate's Keg used to.
indeed, not all "brown soda" has caffeine.
enjoy

Thanks for the update, Anthony! Jack Black's is made by the same company as Rat Bastard. I'm pretty sure it's the same formula, with additional colors to make it more red... I would guess that Hot Rod was a special, limited production label made by the same company. I'm surprised that Hosmer Mountain Sarsaparilla has it - they also make root beer - does the root beer have it? We have X Root Beer Riot listed here as a root beer, but is it really root beer or some funky "energy" drink? |

I dislike the practice of adding caffeine to root beers. One of the reasons I drink root beer is to avoid the caffeine ubiquitous in colas. _________________ "It is better to have drunk and tossed

Barqs adds caffeene? Hmmmm that's proly what give it that "bite" they talk about..... *crosses Barqs off his list.* I'm like articpenguin, I drink RB to get away from the caffeene ..... good to know these things. I had assumed all RB drinks were ceffene free.

Someone tells me that in contrast to Barq's regular, Diet Barq's does NOT have caffeine. Can anyone give me a definitive on that? |

Haven't checked lately, but all it would take is a quick trip to the grocery store to look at the label... |

yes, it does NOT have caffeine. not sure why not, but perhaps they just want to kill you with artificial sweeteners, not caffeine also.
you can see caffeine content of some drinks here:
