disregard this recipe, go to close to modern rootbeer posted 6/1/08

i went back to the drawing board (after talking to a flavorist) he said you take 90%methylsolicitate(wintergreen for substitute) to 10%anisole(anise) this is supose to give you root beer flavor for me the wintergreen is to strong. so i exprerimented with the loranns sassafras(which i noticed had a lot of wintergreen flavor) so i experimented with the sassafrass and anise and this is what i came up with.

take 18 drops loranss sassafras.
3 -4drops anise-loranns
30-35 drops alcohol
shake in a bottle very long and hard to mix(best to let sit at least a couple hours)

for the recipe

i use a 20 ounce plastic bottle empty
add 4-5 teas.sugar
1/4 teas.molasses
1/8 tea.vinillan( or1 teas vinilla .havent tested vinilla yet but suold work)
1 teas. honey
10 drops sarsaparilla
5 drops of the oil mix(shake realy good squeeze dropper few times to mix)
12 oz water
shake realy well then carbonate. let sit for a while for flavors to blend.

this isnt totaly perfect but realy close its drinkable and not bad with ice cream.
the only thing you need to do is adjust the anise flavor up or down and the sweetness.

the key to the rootbeer is adding enough oil .the more oil you add the more it taste like root beer but then you have to get the sweetness to match.
if you want more of wintergreen flavor add more sassafras.

the wintergreen itself is to powerful to cover up.(imo)thats why i used the sasafrass

this one is easy and realy close.maybee with a little help we can make it perfect.
