Hey, Im new to this forum and I was wondering if, instead of brewing with rootbeer extract if I used vanilla extract would it make anything that tasted good? I mean like the vanilla you get from the grocery store you use for baking.

That and a little bit of acid to balance it out is what you call a cream soda.

There was a beverage served at soda fountains called "vanilla phosphate" that had a stronger flavor than cream soda.

It's actually the same beverage, phosphate stands for phosphoric acid. We had a soda fountain in town up until a few years ago and when you order a drink they'll ask you how many pumps of syrup you want. If you ask for one pump you get something like a cream soda, but most people want four or five pumps which gives you something much stronger.

Citric acid, malic acid, tartaric acid, phosphoric acid, acetic acid, lactic acid or any other edible acid. Even just acid salts such as cream of tartar can work.

Citric acid, acetic acid (vinegar), and cream of tartar are pretty easy to find. The others are a little harder to find but plenty available on the internet or home brew supply stores.
