Darn. I should have searched the Rainbow reviews! Oh well, I have enough for 4 gallons. Might as well use it.

I did another batch with McCormick's. I used a candy thermometer in the water to make sure I didn't get it too hot. The lowest increment on my thermometer is 100 degrees. I kept the mix warm, but less ...

I haven't tried it - but it sounds like a great idea! If it works for beer, I don't see why it wouldn't work for root beer. Will you be using CO2 to carb it?

And you can buy Virgil's root beer in a ...

I went over the McCormick recipe. The weak flavor is entirely my fault. I wanted to make sure everything was clean, so I slowly simmered the mix. I should have let the mix cool, then put in the extrac ...

Scratch that cream soda recipe. It tastes odd. Not sure if it is the raisins or the brown sugar. Perhaps it's an old style flavor, but I prefer IBC cream soda. Anyway, don't use the recipe I noted abo ...

I had a hard time finding the extract, until I wandered in to Walmart. Right in the spice section, and inexpensive. Couldn't find it in my grocery store. I'd love to find Zatarains!

Where did you get the inflator? That sounds like a great price!

My rootbeer came out weak and bland. It needs a LOT of tweaking! I think it has too little sugar, and the McCormick's is kind of blan ...

I know this was posted a long time ago, but it sounds like a great recipe! I'll have to try it. If you are still around - did you try bottling and selling it? Or did you try a different recipe? If so, ...

Okay, I put up a batch last night.

I used one gallon water, 1.5 tablespoons McCormick root beer extract, 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract, 1 cup sugar, 1/3 cup brown sugar. I heated it to dissolve the ...

Let me know how that works out. I dropped by a homebrew place today and picked up some caps, a one gallon glass jug, some funnels (one with a filter) and some ale yeast. Already have glass bottles and ...

That would be cool for bottling! I was thinking of just picking up a soda syphon and co2 cartridges, then making a syrup of extract, sugar and water. Then simply mix it right in the glass. I guess tha ...

I made a quick and easy batch today, using McCormick's extract. Directions where 1.5 cups of water, 3/4 cups of sugar. Bring to a boil while constantly stirring to dissolve the sugar. I took the suga ...

How much yeast did you use? And what brand? And how strong was the carbonation/how long did you let it work before popping it in the 'fridge? I know my kids won't go for a yeasty flavor, either.

Fo ...

Replying to myself, lol.

The PET bottles I've found are 500ML, or just under 17 ounces. I'd prefer to use 12 ounce bottles, as I don't want to have too much sugar and calories per bottle. I'd prefe ...

Okay, some very basic questions. I want to get started making rootbeer, and wanted to know if there is a difference in flavor between glass or PET bottles? If you were stocking your kitchen, which way ...
